Lice are small wingless insects of around 2-3 mm in size. They are light grey to brown in colour and they feed on blood from human scalps. They have a life cycle of around 4-6 weeks. An infected person will generally have around a dozen lice on his/her head, but this figure may reach 60 in case of serious infections. Head-louse eggs are called nits. They are cream-coloured and oval-shaped and are no larger than a pinhead. Nits lie in the hair, close to the scalp. Nits are quite resilient and can survive a wash with regular shampoo. Head lice often spread through hat racks in primary schools for example, where rows of jackets are hung.
Lice infections do not resolve themselves on their own. Treatment is required. You can remove lice from hair by carefully combing it with an electronic lice comb. The lice are killed on contact with the comb due to an electric impulse. If head lice are found in one member of the family, it is recommended that all members of the family should be treated.
- Simple combing frees hair from head lice and nits.
- Safe and without side effects
- The lice will be destroyed by an electrical current upon contact with the teeth of the comb.
